Pacquiao must consistently win if he wants Mayweather

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao must consistently win if he wants to have a fight against the former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.

According to Coach Freddie Roach, if Pacquaio loses in any of his future fights before his fight against Mayweather, then he will have a reason to, again, avoid the 8-division world champion

The trainer also said that Mayweather will take advantage of the situation by asking a bigger share of the prize that may also lead to postponement of the fight

It is said that this fight will earn as much as $50 million or P2.1 billion each for Mayweather and Pacquiao, which is the biggest prize a professional boxer would ever receive in the entire boxing history.

Roach to Pacquiao: “Do not take Mosley for granted”

There is no chance that 8-division world champion Manny Pacquaio will get the solid blow of WBA welterweight champion Sugar Mosley.

This was the assurance of multi-awarded boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who also warned Pacman not to take Mosley for granted.

During the Mayweather Jr.-Mosley fight last May 2010, Mayweather went groggy after receiving a solid punch from Mosley that it almost knocked him out.

Roach said that Mosley is considered the best and quick puncher even if he is already 39 years old.

Roach added that they do not underestimate what Mosley can do because he is also a champion, a 5-time world champion in fact.

Mosley reacted on his fight against Pacquiao

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Sugar Shane Mosley reacted on the issue about being chosen to fight against Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title.

According to some observers, Mosley is already 39 years old and his last two fights didn’t leave a very good impression. Top Rank promotions should have chosen Juan Manual Marquez instead.

Mosley asks his critiques then, if he is to fight against Marquez, who do they think will win?
This was also the same question asked by Top Rank President Bob Arum last Sunday.

Mosley claimed that he and Arum do not talk about the issue; however, it only shows that he thinks the same way Pacquiao’s promoter does.

Mosley also mentioned that although he lost against Mayweather, he was able to hit him hard, while Mayweather knocked Marquez out.

Monday, January 3, 2011

Floyd Mayweather Jr’s father is also excited about the fight between WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley and 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In an interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr., he said that he is very eager to see how Mosley smashes Pacman down with his left-and-right attacks.

According to the elder Mayweather, he has been in the boxing scene for so long and he knows the weakness of a boxer.

He also said that Pacquiao will get hurt by the punches of the 39-year-old Mosley the way he got hurt by Antonio Margarito on his side.

"I can't wait to see the Pacquiao vs Mosley fight... I really am excited for that fight. I want to see how it's going to play out. I'm telling you now, Shane is going to hit Pacquiao with a big shot and it won't even buckle him man. Watch what I'm telling you now. And Shane is big and strong... I've been around boxing for a long time and Pacquiao has been hurt by guys that don't punch nowhere near as hard as Shane and I bet Shane won't hurt him," said Mayweather Sr.

In the Mosley vs. Mayweather Jr. fight last May, the latter was hit by one solid punch that almost knocked him out.

Some of the boxers that fought against Mosley were Oscar de la Hoya, Winky Wright, Ricardo Mayorga, Antonio Margarito, Fernando Vargas and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Marquez next after Mosley

If Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still not available, WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez might be the next opponent of the 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao after his fight with the 5-time world champion Sugar Shane Mosley.

This was the statement of Coach Freddie Roach after Top Rank promoter Bob Arum formally announced the Pacquiao vs. Mosley fight for the WBO welterweight title on May 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to Roach, he would want the idea of a re-match between Marquez and Pacquiao to prove to the critiques who believe that it was actually the Mexican who really won in the two fights against Pacquiao.

A draw decision was declared during the first fight of the two boxers while winner by a split decision in favor of Pacquiao during the rematch.

However, Roach doubts if Marquez stills wants to fight with Pacquiao because he is asking a very high prize, almost double than the prize that he received in his fight against Mayweather, Jr.

Pacquiao to knockout Mosley

Coach Freddie Roach is convinced that the 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao will do what other boxers had not done to the 3-division world champion Shane Mosley: A knockout.

According to Roach, Mosley is not an easy opponent in the ring but he is confident that Pacquiao has the necessary strength and speed that will bring the former world champion down.

"Shane is a very durable guy. He has a good chin. It won’t be easy but I think we can stop him in the late rounds. It won’t be an easy fight. When he beat Margarito, everyone thought he was the best fighter at welterweight. We’re going to train very hard for this fight. We don’t take any opponent lightly," Roach added.

The 39-year-old Shane Mosley has only one loss and that was with his fight against Vernon Forrest last 2002. But he was defeated through a decision and not by a knockout.

Oscar de la Hoya, Winky Wright, Ricardo Mayorga, Antonio Margarito, Fernando Vargas and Floyd Mayweather, Jr were among the few whom Mosley had fought with in the past.

Pacquiao Vs Mosley fight is scheduled on the 7th of May 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
